Cynthia Nixon to Marry Partner Christine Marinoni

I stumbled across an article that said a source had told the Enquirer that Cynthia Nixon has decided to settle down and marry her long-time girlfriend Christine Marinoni. I did a little research and started to notice the same headlines being run on this story: "Cynthia Nixon’s cancer scare sends her down the aisle", "Cancer Scare Sends Cynthia Nixon Down The Aisle", etc. You get the picture. After reading the same generic synopsis, I started to feel quite pissed off. In fact, I was ready to stand up and yell bullshit.

I kept reading the following recaps on the story:
Cynthia Nixon is making plans to `marry’ her partner Christine Marinoni after beating breast cancer. The Sex and the City star, 42, underwent surgery and six-and-a-half weeks of daily radiation treatment after she was diagnosed with the disease in 2006 - and the experience has prompted lesbian Nixon’s desire to cement her union to Marinoni with an official declaration of the couple’s commitment to one another.

Not only is "marry" put in quotes, like the word itself is compromised by its association with a gay couple, but the fact that anyone in their right mind would think that the only reason she wants to get married now is because she beat cancer, seems crazy!

Maybe I'm totally wrong here, but people usually get married out of their mutual love, respect and understanding of each other and the desire to translate that into a lifelong commitment and partnership. To say that a "cancer scare sends her down the aisle" is not only wrong, but its downright offensive to the obvious love and commitment they share for one other. It's not like Cynthia was all "Now that my cancer's gone, we can get married, but if it comes back, watch out!" It just seemed all a little melodramatic and downright silly, if you ask me. Plus, she was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and had only just met Christine in 2004. Do you think maybe the timing just wasn't right or she wasn't quite ready?

Well that's all I had to say about that, these "headlines" just pissed me off, but Cynthia Nixon, if you're reading this, I am a HUGE fan (ever since your very first days on 'Sex and the City') and if you are planning to marry Christine, I wish you both all the happiness in the world because you deserve it.

This blog post is excellent probably because of how well the subject was developed. I like some of the comments too though I would prefer we all stay on the subject in order add value to the subject!
