L Word Spin-off Announced!

At Friday's executive session, Showtime chairman and CEO Matthew C. Blank announced a spin-off of The L Word, every lesbian's favorite drama with the hot mamas.

Though the spin-off is in very preliminary stages, Blank confirmed that series creator Ilene Chaiken is working on a new series that will star one of the current cast members. Further, he said that the series finale of The L Word will feature an open-ended storyline that will continue in some online iteration until the spin-off begins airing, and then will become part of the spin-off's narrative.

The L Word's final season is scheduled to air in early 2009. Until then, let's chat. Which lady of L would you like to see front and center on the spin-off?

My vote goes to the deliciously British, jet-setting, millionaires daughter, Helena. Mmmmmm....

I'm betting it's Jenny, too.

I don't think it's Jenny because Showtime has to know that Jenny is a very unpopular character. I actually don't mind Jenny, I think she's hot and I give Mia Kirshner a lot of respect for being the "unlikeable" character, especially on a lesbian show. I really don't think Showtime would give Mia a spin-off because I can't imagine it would maintain the same cult-like following that the L Word gets. I could be wrong here, but my guess is it will either be Shane or Helena. Both characters are quite popular and pretty dynamic. I would love for it to be Alice, but it seems as though Leisha Haley has her hands full with Uh Huh Her.

Thoughts, ladies?

Thank God! My lover and I were already starting to become depressed by the mere thought of our all time favorite show coming to an end. Now we know that there is hope that we can still enjoy a lesbian themed show on a regular basis. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

so ALFIE, who would you like to see take the lead on a spin-off show?

The first person that came to mind when I read this was Alice.

Alice is probably one of the most three dimensional character in the series (getting ready to be belted by tomatoes) and an off spin with her could work whether it takes a more comedy angle or series one.

If it was Bette it would be a very different kind of series but I can't really see Jennifer Beals wanting to remain in the L Word role after the 6th series.

Spin-offs almost always flop. Why not just renew the L Word for another few seasons?

I really want it to be Shane! But Alice is my second choice. I wouldn't want Jenny though.

I say Helena...She rocks

It has to be Alice since Showtime and creators have vested interest in "Our Chart" made famous by Alice's character. They have vowed to keep Our Chart long after L Word and expect the online venue to grow.

SHANE!!! Or Alice...she's hot/cute. Shane is my first choice cause I like looking at her sexiness. =]

Although Alice would be good, Leisha hailey seems too busy with other projects to do that. I hope it's Shane with Alice coming to visit her sometimes. I love their chemistry together. And I would like to see Shane grow up a little. I can't really imagine that I would be interested in watching a show about any other 'L Word' character.

Shane! Shane is the awesomest! Girls want her, boys want her (I ought to know), and why wouldn't they, because, did I mention that she's awesome? 'Cuz she is. Hope this doesn't cause Katherine Moennig to be type-cast, though...
