My Goodness, These Young People Seem Awfully Normal

I look at my children and wonder - do they ever experience anything different with their friends because I'm a lesbian? So, I asked. My son said: "My friends just think you're weird, just like their parents." That seems mighty normal. My kids are also advocates of equal rights for our community. They think it's the only fair-minded thing. Out of the mouths of babes.

John McCain and Sarah Palin don't care about my family. They don't care that by continuing to oppose the fair-minded belief that our laws should guarantee the same fundamental rights and freedoms to all of its citizens on a Federal level they are hurting my family. I want to protect my family - and those kids you are about to see - well, I think they'd agree.

They can't vote, but you can. Vote NO on Prop 8 in California this November - and remind your friends and family to take a look at this video and then do the same.

Youtube by way of LesbianDad.

This is such an awesome video! Our family went to the The Center in Long Beach this weekend where the LGBT Youth Group was rallying in support of No on 8. My son said afterwards "Moms, I felt so comfortable there!" I am going to show them this video - thanks Lori!

Effective, loving, supportive parenting is rare in today's hectic, materializtic society. Kudos to you -- you go girl!

Wonderful film! I hope everyone in California and the rest of the U.S. sees it.

With a child still under 1 year, I can only hope that the unconditional love, support and values his daddy and I give and teach, as well as him not seeing "color or sexual orientation in others" (among other things) will assist him in becoming a well-rounded individual with empathy towards mankind in general.

Now, can anyone help me get this baby to sleep through the night?

Has anyone met any children raised by a homosexual couple who were particularly maladjusted because of it? None of the people I know who grew up with two moms (please don't take that wrong--I just don't know any gay men who've raised kids together, only lesbians) have been affected by it.

Anonymous Post 11,

The research done on the subject shows that children of same-sex couples are just as like as the children of opposite-sex couples to grow up happy, healthy, and well adjusted.

And, no, you experience isn't atypical. Of all the research done so far, only one has been able to find enough families where there are two daddies in order to be able to get enough data for anything conclusive. The conclusions of that study showed almost no difference between a male/male family and a male/female family.

That means that there are some children of same-sex couples who are mal-adjusted, but they are not that way because of being in a same sex household, but in a family with one or two parents who were not capable of, well, to be coarse, being parents.
