ANGEL FOOD AND DEVIL DOGS
By Liz Bradbury
Maggie Gale, Private Detective is my new lesbian hero. Although fictional, she's an excellent role model. I don't think we have enough of those in the lesbian community, or in our community, period. I feel that many times through books and/or movies we're fed these caricatures, the usual stereotype of what we're "supposed" to be like, created and written through the eyes of the hetero type. Ms. Gale's character is truly someone you wish you knew in real life. When I grow up, I wanna be just like Maggie, (she is AWESOME with the ladies!) Liz Bradbury's debut novel Angel Food and Devil Dogs definitely hits it's mark as being the classic mystery "who-done-it" combined with some imaginative, amazingly sensual, erotic lesbian romance, (which is very tastefully written without jeorpardizing the steaminess). In spite of the fact that at times Bradbury gets a little too political correct for me, and certain references or phrases used may seem a bit outdated and old fashioned, you can't help but fall for Maggie and become envious of her way of life. I look forward to enjoying the rest of the "Maggie Gale Mysteries" series, the next one to be titled "Being the Steel Drum Man". We can all use a little "Maggie" in our lives. Actually, I feel like a new and improved lesbian just by reading about her. - 4 stars
