She has performed at the Just for Laughs/TBS Comedy Festival in Chicago and the Marshall’s Women in Comedy Festival. Not only has Erin had a successful career in comedy, but she also succeeds on the small screen with several national television commercial campaigns, including a recent Nature Made commercial where she makes light of vitamins and minerals.

Erin is filming a comedy pilot for E! Entertainment. She recently shot her own half hour comedy special for Comedy Central and has taped Chelsea Lately and The Kilborn File on FOX. Simultaneously, Erin has enjoyed success in the field of acting. She can be seen in the short films “Cried Suicide” and “Squeezplay”, as well as a pilot for MTV called, “This is Ray.” Her favorite role to date was in Cameron Crowe’s film “Almost Famous”. Erin played the role of Allison, the fact checker.

Pin-Up-of-the-Day: Caption This! The Return

The Lesbiatopia "Pin-up-of-the-Day" was always a huge hit with the ladies.  And borne out of that was the infamous "Caption This!" segment of "Pin-up-of-the-Day" where we simply posted a ridiculous photo of women, and let you add the caption.  It was pure, unadultered hilarity so we felt that it was time to bring it (back). Oh it's already been brought-en.

Here's the preview...

Guidette alert... ready... set... caption!

Lesbiatopia: A New Look for The NEW Lesbian

(from the Editor & Founder of Lesbiatopia.com)

Lesbiatopia was a project I started in 2007 only a few short years after I came out of the closet.  I was feeling so gay I felt the need to express myself to an audience that would not only relate to what I was going through, but would participate.  Well, I can say without hesitation that this blog has become so much more than I ever imagined.  It has been a sounding board, a creative outlet, a fun form of written expression, a gathering of friends and strangers, a partner in activism and more.  I have seen many eager writers donate their time and energy into heartfelt articles, articles about bad hair and even articles about sex.  It has seen thousands of page views and has been visited by all demographics from all around the world.  It was even nominated as the "Best LGBT Blog of 2008" in the 2008 bloggie awards, being beat out only by the Queen of Media himself, Perez Hilton.  Not a bad feat if I do say so myself.

I feel like a proud mother when I look back at countless hours I have put in making the site something that I could truly and genuinely feel good about.  When I think back to all that I accomplished, I can only smile and wonder what the future for the site holds.  I know I have neglected my lesbian love child for some time now, getting caught up in other projects, work, life, love, heartbreak, cross country travel, a big move from Boston to LA and back to Boston again, change of jobs, change of girlfriends, change.  It's funny how life can take off on you like a teenager in a souped up Honda.  Vroom vroom, you bat an eye, and it's 5 years later. I had been wanting to resurrect the site for so long but like so many things, I kept procrastinating the re-design (or my ADD got in the way).  I finally put my foot down and I am so glad I did.  After diligently working with a brand new look and feel for the site, I decided to go with a cleaner, simpler, more accessible design. And I want to go big. Again.  Mom always said, "Go big or go home".  And for the record, it wasn't my mom that said that, but I'm sure it was someone's.

Despite the new look, I thought it'd be fun and somewhat reminiscent to highlight some of the site's best articles and shining moments since its inception in 2007.  One of my all time favorite moments was meeting, interviewing and becoming friends with the beautiful and talented comedic actress Nicol Paone.  I did a 5 part video interview series with her and she was kind enough to invite me into her home.  You can see Exclusive! An Interview with BGSS's Nicol Paone, Part 1 of 5 here.  In meeting Nicol, I also become good friends with her hilarious and extremely talented girlfriend, Erin Foley.  I am so thankful for the opportunities that the site provided me with in meeting some of Hollywood's most hilarious gay women.  And I got to go to free comedy shows whenever I wanted.  It was, in short, awesome.

From my work with Lesbiatopia, I was offered a writing position at AOL's biggest gay blog (at the time) QueerSighted.com. I also wrote for OurChart.com during the final season of The L Word, an honor than any lesbian would be uber proud of.

I was sent to the True Colors tour concert as a photography and journalist, I was invited to the premier of Itty Bitty Titty Committee, and I even produced a collaborative webisode, OutLoud, with the lovely and very talented out lesbian actress, Michelle Wolff. Lesbiatopia Exclusive: OutLoud, An Inside Look at Out Entertainment

In addition to all the celesbian fun, there are countless articles in the Lesbiatopia archives that I just adore.  880 to be exact.  Can you believe it? 880 articles were written on this blog by countless numbers of contributors. Friends. Strangers.  Ex Girlfriends.  It's sort of crazy when I think about it, I almost can't believe it's true.  It is virtually impossible to go through EVERY single article that was ever written and pick out my favorite, BUT I did manage to round up a few of the best, funniest and most controversial and have compiled them here for you to savior and enjoy; a little throwback to the good old days.

When it all boils down to it, I decided to breathe life back into Lesbiatopia.com, not because of the free stuff, or the media passes, or even the fame (ha!) but it is simply because I love to write. I'm sure you're wondering what the future of Lesbiatopia holds, and that remains to be seen. But there will be new content, more content, and more frequent content.  It will be fun, and smart, and fresh, and entertaining.  And if you are interested in being a contributing, send me an email and I will get you set up with your own profile for the site and you too can see how amazing it is to have a voice to an audience that listens and cares.  I hope you enjoy the new look and I welcome any and all feedback, thoughts, comments, one-liners, etc.  And let the record show that although this site is titled "Lesbiatopia", any and all members of the LGBTQI community are always welcomed, this is truly a judgement free zone.

Peace, Love and Lesbians,

The Big Gay Sketch Show Loves Paula Abdul

Lesbiatopia's favorite funny gal, Nicol Paone, is at it again in LOGO's newest American Idol skit, bidding Paula Abdul farewell as she has recently announced she will be leaving American Idol.

Paone's impression of Kara Dioguardi is spot on.

Help Me Get on Ellen's Show!!

For those of you who watch The Ellen Show like it's going out of style, then you certainly know about her quest to get on the cover of Oprah's "O" Magazine. Oprah has committed to doing it but she hasn't set the date yet! I've decided to help Ellen expedite her quest to get on the cover by creating a cover shot that I think would be fabulous and perfect. Send Ellen an email and tell her to show my artwork on her show. How can Oprah say no to this?

My Wife, Sandra Bullock, Coming to the Big Screen: June 2009

- Renee Gannon

Most people probably won't be as excited as I am about the release of Sandra Bullock's latest movie, The Proposal, but you have to admit, it does look funny and who doesn't love Ryan Reynolds and Betty White?? Sandra Bullock is like a fine wine, she only gets better with age as you can clearly see in the HD trailer for The Proposal, set to be released in theaters June 12, 2009.

Lindsay Lohan's eHarmony Profile

Ok ladies, for those of you who love a fiery red head (and who doesn't), Lindsay Lohan just released her eHarmony video profile. I don't know about you, but as much as a trainwreck Lohan is, she's still a total hottie. I wonder if the carpet matches the drapes...

Breaking News: Will the Real NOM TV Ad Please Stand Up?

On 4/09, at 4:30PM PST, we posted an article about the newly launched National Organization for Marriage's new TV ad campaign. Since that time, we have stumbled across several strikingly similar, yet much more tastefully done, video advertisements that have left us dazed and confused. Will the real NOM TV ad please stand up?

If OurChart is Dead...

.... than why the hell am I still getting emails from their site if it doesn't exist anymore??

Is this happening to anyone else or am I the only one? I get the following email, subject line "New private messages at OurChart", at least once a week:

Hi Renee Gannon, This is an automatic reminder from the site OurChart. You have received a new private message.

And when I click on the link I get this message:

Sorry, we couldn't find what you were looking for. This site is updated regularly and certain links may no longer work.

It's like an unending circle of torturous emails that promise everything and give nothing. It really messes with a girl's head. As if I don't have enough going on right now with a struggling economy, global warming and the constant pain of deciding who to vote for on American idol... it's really all too much for me to handle right now.

p.s. I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Book Review: _The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For_ by Alison Bechdel

I am stepping all over BOOK_REVIEWER's bailiwick by writing my own unauthorized book review today, but I have a feeling she might forgive me on this one as it totes warrants everyone hearing about it!

I'm referring to the inimitable The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). The book compiles twenty years of the infamous comic strip into a hefty tome of all things lez with sumptuous results.

We get the chance to watch Bechdel's art evolve from squiggly 1980s butches into her vividly recognizable contemporary panoply of loveable characters lovingly rendered. Her heroines slog through every major political event from Reagan's departure to the Iraq occupation, and throughout I suspect we hear Bechdel's ultraliterate voice in her characters' passionate criticisms of their era's injustices. Dissections of other concepts that are topical yet timeless (such as marriage equality and lesbian parenting) pop up somewhat presciently in her earliest comics and span the whole book.

Bechdel self-consciously struggles with the task of highlighting all that is special, different, and radical about lesbians while simultaneously depicting them in the most mundane of everyday situations; in an effort to pin down the dyke "essence" she cannot help but admit that humanizing a counterculture invariably involves comparing that which is unique to that which is universal--effectively destroying the "us" versus "them" activist component of drawing a comic with the word "Dykes" in the title. Her later comics face further complication of themes as she introduces her first transgender characters who steamroll over all "common wisdom" notions of gender--welcome additions to Bechdel's work that showcase her maturity as an author.

The one element of her oeuvre that keeps me puzzled is the extremely high volume of infidelity among her characters. Every couple of strips features forbidden lust, causing me to wonder if this is another comment of Bechdel's on lesbian culture at large, or if the yearnings and trysts of the Dykes to Watch Out For are purely plot-driven. (I guess I may never know.)

Much of the book's activity takes place in a bookstore, so be prepared for SAT vocabulary and hidden references to Shakespeare; I would venture to say that your average dyke is (SADLY) far less literate than Bechdel and her two-dimensional progeny would lead an uninitiated breeder to believe. Even if you are not up-to-speed on your postfeminist dialectics you will--not might, but will--unceasingly enjoy this witty and thought-provoking compilation. Get a copy today and watch all your friends beg to borrow it (but make them get their own copy; let's all support kick-ass lesbian authors!).

The BEST Christmas Cookies Ever

I normally don't read or send FWDs. You know the ones, those tedious and annoying emails you get from random people in your contact list that you would otherwise never talk to. They are the overly cheesy emails, usually chock full of cute kittens and puppies with homemade cliches that get passed from your co-worker's grandmother's sister's brother's cousin's 2nd-grade-teacher and on to you. Usually the subject line reads "FWD FWD FWD: The Man & The Eagle - Awesome" or "FWD FWD: Here's a little pick-me-up for you..." The list goes on.

One particularly anticlimactic afternoon, I saw a FWD from my Aunt. This particular Aunt tends to not spend much time on the computer and doesn't generally engage in the email forwarding phenomenon. I knew, coming from her, this particular FWD had to be good. And it was. This was, hands down, one of the funniest emails I've ever read. I laughed so hard, I peed a little. Given the holiday spirit, I decided to share this email FWD with you, hoping you will enjoy it as much I did. Merry Christmas to all.

If I knew who the author was, I would buy that woman a drink. If you've already read this, read it again.

In case you might be looking for a new holiday cookie recipe...the tequila can be either white or gold cuervo,

1 cup of water

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup of sugar

1 tsp salt

1 cup of brown sugar

lemon juice

4 large eggs

1 cup nuts

2 cups of dried fruit

1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer...Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.

Add one teaspoon of sugar...Beat again.

At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup ... just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit, Pick the frigging fruit off floor... Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

Embarrassment at its Finest

There are certain events that occur in life which tend to be embarrassing at worst and entertaining at best. Usually these events have a tendency to find themselves onto the internet, whether it be in photographic or video format. When drinking beverages of the alcoholic nature, I try to avoid both digital and video cameras due to the sheer fact that all moral codes of conduct tend to throw themselves out the window when alcohol is involved. I'm sure most of you know this type of behavior all too well.

What I'm about to share with you is a classic embarrassing moment for me, but for the sake entertainment purposes, will be enjoyable for you, the viewer and thus I have decided not to be selfish and share it for the sake of entertainment purposes. Afterall, it is the holidays and those are the most wonderful times of the year.

If you remember back to Halloween, you'll remember that I dressed up like Sarah Palin and went to a popular karaoke bar in LA. The highlight of my night was winning 2nd place in the costume contest which equated to a prize of free drinks at the bar all night. This was a winning combination. Fortunately, there was a dude there dressed like Barack Obama, and in my alcohol-induced celebridency I decided it would be an awesometastic idea to sing a duet with him. It was, of course, videotaped (not to my knowledge) and has since found it's way on YouTube. Obviously. So here it is, "Sarah Palin", played by myself singing "I've had the time of my life" with President-elect, "Barack Obama". Enjoy.

Prop 8 (The Musical)

The hilarious people at "Funny of Die" have put out a new video, "Prop 8 - The Musical." The star-studded participants include Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, Margaret Cho, John C. Reilly, Maya Rudolph and many more familiar faces. If this isn't comedy, I don't know what is.

Where Has Renee Gone?

Hey Lesbiatopians... you may have noticed I've been a little MIA. I apologize for not keeping you all abreast (no pun intended...ok, pun intended) of my absence. My life, of lately, can be nicely summed up with the following visualization.

The good news is, hopefully that will all be changing. Soon. I'm the kind the person who, when unhappy with the way things are going, prefers to take life by the horns and wrestle to the ground, preferably in mud, pudding or lube. So basically, that's what I'm doing right now. I'm making lots of big changes because change is good and that means that Lesbiatopia is going to be better than ever. I will be writing a lot more, interacting a lot more and engaging you, the readers, as much as possible. Please stay tuned because these changes will be coming soon, within the next few weeks. Until then, bear with me, thanks for your patience and most importantly, thanks for reading. I now leave you with the quintessential lesbian must-have. Enjoy.

Big hugs,
Renee

Hott 4 Hill 2 - My Presidential Love Song

If you guys don't remember, there was a video circling around the internet during the time when Hillary was vying for the Democratic Presidential nomination. It was called "Hott 4 Hill" and it was created by a girl named Taryn Southern who's really making a name for herself on the internet. Plus, she's quite the hottie too. Well, Taryn is at it again with another round of presidential love... and here's a message from Taryn herself:

"We're less than three weeks away from the BIG election.

You may remember an internet video I posted last year called Hott 4 Hill (yes, the lesbian one).

For the past year, I said I wouldn't make a follow-up...but...I couldn't help it! What can I say, Palin "inspired" me.

SO - whether you're Gaylin' for Paylin, Bi for Biden, Mad for McCain, or maybe you just have a good 'ol-fashioned Crush on Obama...I hope you enjoy the vid, and of course, don't forget to vote this Nov. 4th!!

And in honor of Hillary's pantsuits, that's all folks."

Margaret Cho Would Want Al-Gayda on This One!

(crossed posted from Grace the Spot)

“Al Gayda was accidentally activated by Margaret Cho, the best comic of all time, in the last quarter of 2004. After participating in a fundraiser for Presidential candidate John Kerry, Margaret Cho receive thousands of hateful, racist emails from the Republican Reich and the Christian Reich, which may be the same thing. In response to these emails and to show how racist and hateful these so called ‘family values’ people are she posted them to her website complete with their names, email addresses and any other identifying information that they had inadvertently provided. That was the spark that activated one of the most virulent vigilante groups in America history, extremely pissed-off gay people known as Al-Gayda.”
