Help Me Get on Ellen's Show!!

For those of you who watch The Ellen Show like it's going out of style, then you certainly know about her quest to get on the cover of Oprah's "O" Magazine. Oprah has committed to doing it but she hasn't set the date yet! I've decided to help Ellen expedite her quest to get on the cover by creating a cover shot that I think would be fabulous and perfect. Send Ellen an email and tell her to show my artwork on her show. How can Oprah say no to this?

Ellen Degeneres: An Unconventional Covergirl

I'm so conflicted!

I have an enormous amount of respect for Ellen and how she conducts herself. I think she makes good choices for herself and her career and doesn't let middle america twist her into something she's not.

That's not to say she isn't presenting an edited version of herself on her weekday talk show, but I never get the sense she is presenting an inauthentic version of herself to her audience.

Today it was announced that Degeneres will be the face of Cover Girl in a new campaign for the make up company, and I don't know what to think.

It is definitely an interesting choice. Ellen is very attractive but by her own admissions, she is not a fan of make up and I believe the closest Ellen gets to any make up when she's not on her T.V. set is the lip gloss she kisses off of Portia.

I'm all for visibility, but I'm perplexed. If she doesn't wear make up herself, why promote it?

Weddings, Dyke Style

Well, as I know you've heard by now the Queen Mother of lesbians, Ellen DeGeneres, and her girlfriend Portia de Rossi got hitched this weekend.

So what do lesbians wear to get married anyway? Well, honestly I think we're lucky. Gay men generally seem to wear suits or tuxes, while straight people are stuck in their gender roles. We, on the other hand, have the entire spectrum of formal wear to choose from. So let's start with Ellen and Portia.

I'm honestly not sold on Ellen's outfit. She usually has an awesome sense of style - I'm fairly convinced she brought the casual blazer style into lesbiandom singlehandedly. This outfit though ... Well, the shirt is kind of nice - what I can see of it anyway. And the pants are inoffensive enough. But the vest? It makes me think she's reverted to her old 80s self. I could definitely see that outfit working with a silk suit vest or something along those lines, but seems to be some sort of odd halter-vest-thing. Anyway, I'm not impressed.

Portia, on the other hand, looks lovely as always. She wore a dress by Zac Posen. Lots of poof and lots of skin in all the right places for a classy summer wedding gown. The two exchanged hand-written vows and rings designed by Neil Lane.

So what about the rest of us who don't have money for designer fashions and who in all likelihood will not get pictures of our weddings leaked to the press? Well, here's what's in with lesbian weddings.

There has been a trend, especially since marriage became legal, to go the classic route with the tux and gown. I'm a huge fan of tuxes, and this is a great idea for lesbians who have always dreamed of getting married with all the bells and whistles and maybe dreamed of being the one wearing the cuff links too.

It can get a little more complicated with two women in big poofy wedding dresses. Mostly you need to make sure that the combination of the two won't prevent you from leaning over to kiss the bride.

On the other hand, there seem to be a significant number of lesbians having less traditional weddings - whether that means showing up at the San Francisco court house to get the document or a big party on the beach.

One thing I've seen a lot of - and we do see this in the DeGeneres-de Rossi wedding - is one or both women in a white or tan suit. I like this look. It's not the traditional tux, so it's good for women who are worried about projecting an "I'm the man in the relationship" image, and at the same time it's a nice compromise for those of us who would rather kiss a man than wear a dress.

There are also a lot of lovely embroidered button-down shirts and a lot of colorful gowns and dresses. The best advice I've heard, really, is take whatever you're most comfortable wearing - and wear a nicer version! There are obviously a lot of choices for dresses that I can't even begin to contemplate. Dresses are like a whole different world to me. Then there are blazers and tux jackets and silk shirts and slacks. The possibilities for us lesbians really are endless.

Ellen Degeneres & Portia De Rossi Will Tie the Knot This Weekend!

This just in from USMagazine.com... Our favorite out funny lady, Ellen Degeneres will be walking down the aisle this weekend, to marry her sweetheart, Portia De Rossi.

The pair are planning a small, intimate ceremony with only a few close friends and family.

Following the California Supreme Court's monumental ruling that same sex couple's have the right to marry, DeGeneres announced she planned to wed her longtime girlfriend on a taping of her show in May.

"It's something that we've wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited," DeGeneres, 50, gushed to Us Magazine.

Watch Ellen's emotional engagement announcement.

DeGeneres reflected on their upcoming nuptials at the Daytime Emmy Awards in Hollywood in June.

"I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous that we don't all have the same rights," DeGeneres said.

Of the preparations, DeGeneres joked, "Planning a wedding is very stressful. It's crazy. My gardener is now invited."

DeGeneres and De Rossi began dating in December 2004.

"I feel like I found my perfect fit," DeGeneres said of De Rossi in an interview with the Advocate.

"She’s taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I’ve taught her," DeGeneres added.

Ellen and Portia are great role models to the lesbian community, especially for younger queer women who may not have strong gay role models in their lives. They are proof that it is possible for lesbians to have a long-term relationship, get married and live a normal life like any other monogamous couple.

Lesbiatopia would like to wish Ellen and Portia the utmost happiness on their special day and the continued love and support that they have shown each other from the beginning.
